Walker Spence delivered a historic performance on Friday, September 25, hitting three home runs to help the Houston Astros defeat the Sacramento Athletics 7-5 at Sutter Health Park. The away team overcame a mid-game deficit to secure the win before a crowd of 9,367.

Spence’s first homer came in the second inning, a 429-foot blast to right center that scored two runs and gave Houston an early 3-0 lead. He followed with a solo shot to right center in the seventh and finished his three-homer night with a 351-foot drive to right in the ninth, extending the lead to 7-5.

A's Respond with Power

The Athletics answered Houston’s early lead with their own offensive burst in the third inning. Jose Ramirez McNeil launched a 379-foot home run to right center, scoring two runs to tie the game at 3-3. Shortly after, Nick Gelof added a 413-foot solo homer to center, putting Sacramento ahead 4-3.

The teams traded runs in the sixth and eighth innings. Luis Garcia Paredes hit a 394-foot solo homer to left in the sixth to tie the score at 4-4.

In the eighth, Houston’s Walker hit a 436-foot solo homer to left center to take a 6-4 lead, but Gelof answered with a 398-foot solo homer to left center, bringing the Athletics back within one run at 6-5.

Pitching and Records

Mason Barnett started for the Athletics, pitching six innings while allowing four earned runs on four hits. He issued two walks and struck out eight batters. Scott Blewett took the loss, pitching one inning and allowing one earned run on three hits.

For Houston, Miguel Ullola earned the win after pitching three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Bryan Abreu closed out the game with the save, pitching one and one-third scoreless innings. The Astros improved their record to 79-80, while the Athletics dropped to 63-96.

The game featured exactly eight home runs, with Spence accounting for three of them. No other players hit multiple home runs in the contest. The final score remained 7-5 in favor of the visiting Astros.
