Witt Powers Royals to Fifth Straight Win

The Kansas City Royals defeated the Athletics 6-2 at Kauffman Stadium on Thursday, August 20, 2026. The victory marked the fifth consecutive win for Kansas City, which now holds a 55-74 record. The Athletics, who dropped to 49-79, fell short in front of a crowd of 11,867. The home team’s offensive production proved decisive, as they outscored their visitors 6-2 in the contest.

Early Offense Sets the Tone

Bobby Witt Jr. opened the scoring with a solo home run to left center in the first inning. The ball traveled 402 feet, giving the Royals an early 1-0 lead. Kansas City extended their advantage in the third inning when Nick Collins singled to left.

That play allowed Perez and Witt Jr. to score, pushing the margin to 3-0. In the fourth inning, the Royals added two more runs. Loftin tripled to center, driving in Massey.

Later in the frame, Perez singled to center, allowing Witt Jr. to score and increasing the lead to 5-0. The Athletics managed a single run in the fifth inning when Serven singled to center, scoring Butler. The Royals responded immediately with two more runs.

Walton grounded out to second, scoring Muncy. Massey then doubled to right, bringing Collins home to make the final score 6-1. The Athletics scored their second run later in the fifth, but could not overcome the deficit.

Pitching Performance

Randy Dobnak started for the Royals, pitching four innings. He allowed six hits and four walks while striking out four batters. He did not allow any earned runs, earning the win.

Connor Thomas pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing one hit and two earned runs while walking three. He struck out two batters. Craig Kimbrel, John Schreiber, and Nate Pearson each pitched one inning without allowing hits, earned runs, or walks.

For the Athletics, Gage Jump took the loss. He pitched four innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs while walking three and striking out three. Taylor Rashi pitched two innings, allowing three hits and one earned run.

Scott Blewett finished the game with two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
