Warriors’ late lead slips away in Honolulu preseason opener

Golden State lost 104–101 to the Clippers in Honolulu. The Warriors return to Chase Center to face the Lakers on Tuesday.

The Golden State Warriors lost to the LA Clippers 104-101 in their preseason opener Sunday, Oct. 4, at Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu. The Clippers were the designated home team.

Charles Bassey led Golden State with 12 points and added eight rebounds. Yaxel Lendeborg collected a game-high nine rebounds. Rui Hachimura scored 21 points for Los Angeles.

The Warriors led 24-23 after the first quarter, but the Clippers took a 55-43 halftime lead. Golden State won the third quarter 30-22, cutting its deficit to 77-73.

Golden State went ahead 101-100 on Graham Ike's tip-in with 27.5 seconds remaining. Keaton Wagler answered with a jumper, and Cam Christie added two free throws to finish the scoring.

The exhibition result does not count toward the regular-season standings. The Warriors' next preseason game is Tuesday, Oct. 6, against the Los Angeles Lakers at Chase Center in San Francisco, scheduled for 7 p.m. Pacific.
