A Decisive Away Victory

The Los Angeles Angels delivered a commanding performance on Friday, August 21, defeating the Houston Astros 18-3 at Daikin Park. The away team dominated the scoring, outproducing the hosts by a wide margin in front of 20,934 fans. This result improved the Angels' record to 51-77 while leaving the Astros with a 64-64 mark.

Scoring Breakdown

The Angels established an early lead in the first inning, where Neto singled to right field to drive in Meckler. Houston responded immediately to tie the game, but Los Angeles retook the lead in the second inning. Grissom singled to center to score Ballesteros, followed by Heineman's sacrifice bunt that brought in Grissom.

Frazier then grounded into a fielder's choice, allowing Lowe to score after a successful Angels challenge overturned the initial call. The gap widened in the fourth inning as Frazier doubled to center, scoring Lowe. Neto followed with a single to left, driving in Frazier.

Ballesteros singled to left to score Meckler and Trout, and Grissom doubled to left to bring in Ballesteros and Neto.

Key Performances

Neto was the standout performer, homering to center field in the fifth inning. The 428-foot drive scored Frazier and Schanuel, extending the Angels' lead to 14-2. Neto continued his offensive surge in the seventh inning with a double to center that scored Trout and Siri.

In the ninth, Guzman homered to left field, a 363-foot shot that brought in Peraza. Smith hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Varsho, capping the Angels' scoring.

Pitching Duel

Grayson Rodriguez earned the win, pitching seven scoreless innings. He allowed five hits and two walks while striking out six. Blake Weiman closed the game, pitching two innings and allowing three hits and one earned run with three strikeouts.

For Houston, Peter Lambert took the loss, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing eight hits and nine earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts. Bryan King pitched 1.1 innings, allowing five hits and five earned runs with one strikeout. Tatsuya Imai pitched three innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs with two walks and three strikeouts.

LaMonte Wade Jr. pitched one inning, allowing three hits and two earned runs with no strikeouts.
