Dodgers' push falls short
Los Angeles turned a six-run deficit into a one-run game in the eighth inning, but Crow-Armstrong's two home runs and run-scoring double helped the Chicago Cubs beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 7-6 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Wrigley Field.
The Dodgers struck first in the top of the first when Ohtani homered to right center, a 376-foot drive that put Los Angeles ahead by one run. Crow-Armstrong answered in the bottom half with a 420-foot homer to center, tying the game 1-1.
Cubs build the lead
Chicago moved in front in the second inning. Swanson doubled to left to score Hoerner, and Crow-Armstrong followed with a double to right that brought in Swanson for a 3-1 Cubs lead.
The Cubs added three more runs in the fourth. Crow-Armstrong hit a 405-foot homer to right with Taylor aboard, and Bregman singled to left to score Suzuki, pushing Chicago ahead 6-1.
In the seventh, Hoerner doubled to left and Busch scored. The Dodgers challenged on the play, and the call on the field was upheld, giving the Cubs a 7-1 lead.
Eighth-inning charge
Los Angeles answered with five runs in the eighth. Muncy hit a 413-foot homer to right center, scoring Tucker and Betts to make it 7-4. Ohtani followed later with his second homer of the game, a 367-foot drive to left center that scored Rojas and cut Chicago's lead to 7-6.
The game included exactly five home runs: two by Crow-Armstrong, two by Ohtani and one by Muncy.
Pitching and records
Shota Imanaga earned the win for Chicago, allowing eight hits and one earned run over five innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Tyler Ferguson pitched two innings, allowing one hit and no earned runs with no walks and three strikeouts. Caleb Thielbar allowed four hits and four earned runs in one-third of an inning. Ryan Zeferjahn allowed one hit and one earned run in two-thirds of an inning with two strikeouts and received his 11th hold. Jacob Webb earned his sixth save with one inning, no hits, no earned runs, no walks and no strikeouts.
Eric Lauer took the loss for Los Angeles, allowing 11 hits and six earned runs in four innings with no walks and one strikeout. Attendance was 38,691. The Cubs are 66-49, and the Dodgers are 69-46.
