A Disappointing Start for Los Angeles
The Los Angeles Kings entered Wednesday’s contest at Ball Arena looking to establish an early rhythm, but they found themselves on the wrong side of a lopsided result. Colorado defeated Los Angeles 8-4 in their season opener, handing the visitors their first loss while improving the Avalanche to 1-0 with two points.
The Kings managed to strike first when Brock Nelson scored a snap shot in the opening period, assisted by Jaden Schwartz and Nazem Kadri. However, Colorado responded quickly. Brian Dumoulin tied the game with a wrist shot, followed shortly by Parker Kelly’s snap shot assist from Josh Manson, giving the Avalanche a 2-1 lead heading into the second frame.
Avalanche Surge in the Second Period
The turning point of the game occurred during the middle period, where Colorado completely overwhelmed Los Angeles. Nathan MacKinnon opened the scoring for the home team with a snap shot, aided by Nazem Kadri and Cale Makar. Although Joel Armia pulled one back for the Kings with assistance from Erik Haula and Cody Ceci, the Avalanche continued to pile on.
MacKinnon struck again, this time on a wrist shot powered by Martin Necas and Brent Burns. Nicolas Roy added another goal via a poke, supported by Jaden Schwartz and Parker Kelly. Trevor Moore reduced the deficit for Los Angeles with a wrist shot assisted by Mikey Anderson, but Colorado remained relentless.
Artturi Lehkonen scored his first of the night on a snap shot, with Brock Nelson and Devon Toews providing the assists.
