The 2026 U.S. National Table Tennis Championships commenced on Friday, July 3, in San Jose. The event is scheduled to run through July 9 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. San Jose is located approximately 9 miles northeast of Saratoga.
According to city officials, more than 1,100 athletes representing 38 states are expected to compete. Practice sessions are currently underway on 100 tables installed inside the convention center. The tournament follows other recent major sporting gatherings in the region, including the Super Bowl and local World Cup matches.
Virginia Sun, chief executive officer of USA Table Tennis, described the hosting of the championships as a significant occasion for the sport. She noted that San Jose possesses one of the strongest table tennis communities in the nation and has produced numerous Olympic athletes. Mayor Matt Mahan stated that Silicon Valley has historically been a center for table tennis talent. He added that spectators would witness some of the top players in the country, many of whom have strong connections to the Bay Area.
The city has a documented history of producing elite players for the national team. San Jose has sent four table tennis players to represent the United States at the Olympic Games. The first of these athletes competed in the year 2000, with the most recent delegation participating in the 2024 Games.
