$46,000 in jewelry reported stolen on Seaton Avenue; storage unit burglarized

The latest Saratoga crime log lists a $46,000 jewelry theft, a $23,950 storage unit burglary, a DUI arrest, an identity theft and a shoplifting case at Safeway.

Jewelry worth $46,000 was reported stolen from a Saratoga resident, one of several cases in the latest Saratoga crime log published by The Mercury News.

The jewelry theft was reported on Seaton Avenue, in the 20000 block. The pieces were taken sometime from Feb. 1 to Sept. 18, according to the log.

In a separate case, a man was notified that his storage unit in the 12000 block of Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road may have been broken into. He was not able to get back to the unit until Sept. 22, and when he did he found items worth a combined $23,950 gone, the log says.

Other entries from late September:

  • Sept. 26, DUI: A deputy pulled over a driver at 5:53 p.m. after seeing signs of possible impairment. The deputy determined the driver was intoxicated, made an arrest and released the driver to a sobering center.
  • Aug. 1 to Sept. 26, identity theft: Someone obtained a resident's personal information, took over the victim's phone line and bank account, and switched the phone carrier and address on file. The thief or thieves then took out $2,000 in cash at an ATM in Texas.
  • Sept. 27, organized retail theft: Deputies were called at 11:38 a.m. to the Safeway on Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road. Five people believed to be juveniles took meat and alcohol valued at $350, according to the report.
