Salas Delivers Key Offense

The San Diego Padres secured a decisive 9-3 victory over the host Colorado Rockies on Thursday, September 17, at Coors Field in Denver. The win moved the Padres to an 83-69 record, while the Rockies fell to 56-96. Attendance at the ballpark reached 16,806 fans.

Ethan Salas was the standout performer for San Diego, driving in three runs and hitting two home runs. He connected with a 426-foot homer to center field in the second inning and followed it up with a 372-foot shot to right field in the fifth. These efforts helped the visiting team build a significant early lead that they maintained through the final frames.

Rockies Struggle at the Plate

The Rockies managed only three runs in their home plate appearance. Their scoring came in the first and sixth innings. In the bottom of the first, McCarthy scored on a fielder's choice to make it 2-1.

Pitching Performance

Robbie Ray earned the win for the Padres, pitching six innings while allowing three earned runs on three hits. He walked two batters and struck out six. David Morgan recorded two scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out two. Yuki Matsui finished the game with one inning of work, allowing no hits or earned runs while walking two batters.

For Denver, Mason Adams took the loss after four and one-third innings. He allowed eight hits and six earned runs, walking three batters and striking out one. Nick Frasso pitched one and two-thirds innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs with three strikeouts. Jimmy Herget and Juan Mejia also appeared in relief for the Rockies, with Mejia recording three strikeouts in one scoreless inning.
