A Tough Outing for San Francisco
The San Francisco Giants faced a difficult challenge on Saturday at Petco Park, ultimately falling to the San Diego Padres with a final score of 7-0. The loss drops the Giants to a 47-63 record, while the Padres improve to 56-54.
San Francisco’s starting pitcher Carson Whisenhunt took the loss, improving his record to 2-2. He struggled significantly in his outing, allowing seven hits and six earned runs across 3.1 innings. The Padres’ offense was active early, loading the bases and capitalizing on Whisenhunt’s struggles.
Adrian Houser attempted to stabilize the situation, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing one earned run on five hits with three strikeouts. Despite his efforts, the damage inflicted in the early innings proved too much to overcome.
Padres Offense Dominates Early
San Diego’s offense exploded in the first inning, jumping out to an early lead that they would never relinquish. In the top of the first, a sacrifice fly by Machado allowed Tatis Jr. to score, giving the Padres a 1-0 advantage. The scoring continued shortly after when Campusano singled to left field, driving in Rengifo to make it 2-0.
The Padres extended their lead in the third inning. Bogaerts grounded into a double play, but Merrill managed to score, pushing the margin to 3-0. San Diego’s attack intensified in the fourth inning.
Bowen homered to left field, a 384-foot shot that made the score 4-0. France followed with a single to center field, bringing both Tatis Jr. and Rengifo home to extend the lead to 6-0.
