Ray’s Complete Game Shutout

Robbie Ray delivered a masterful performance on the mound, pitching eight scoreless innings to lead the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves. Ray (7-6) allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out two batters, setting the tone for a defensive battle at Oracle Park. His outing proved decisive in a game defined by tight pitching and critical errors.

Atlanta’s Chris Sale (8-6) took the loss after matching Ray’s intensity for six innings. Sale surrendered one earned run on eight hits, walked one batter, and recorded 10 strikeouts. Despite his strong strikeout total, the Braves could not sustain their offensive output against Ray’s command.

Braves Take Early Lead

The Braves struck first in the sixth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues to take a 2-0 advantage. With the score tied at 0, Alex Bregman reached on an infield single to third base, allowing Matt Olson to score on a throwing error by Giants third baseman Matt Chapman. Bregman advanced to second, and Austin Riley was safe at third on a subsequent error.

Atlanta extended their lead later in the inning when Michael Harris II reached on an infield single to second base. Austin Riley scored on another error, and Harris advanced to second before being thrown out at third. The Braves held a 2-0 lead heading into the seventh inning, fueled by timely errors rather than extra-base hits.

Giants Rally in Later Innings

San Francisco began its comeback in the bottom of the seventh. With the bases loaded, Wilmer Difo hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring Matt Chapman to make the score 1-2. The Giants continued to chip away in the eighth inning when LaMonte Wade Jr. grounded out to first base, allowing Austin Slater to score and tie the game at 2-2.

The decisive run came in the ninth inning. With the game tied, Matt Chapman grounded out to first base, allowing Austin Slater to score from third base, giving the Giants a 3-2 lead. The Braves were unable to respond, as the Giants’ bullpen closed out the win.

Bullpen Holds the Line

San Francisco’s bullpen maintained the lead with a perfect ninth inning. Caleb Kilian (6) earned the save, pitching one hitless inning with one strikeout. He allowed one earned run on two hits, but the damage had already been done by the offense.

Atlanta’s bullpen struggled to contain the Giants’ offense. Didier Fuentes allowed an earned run in 0.1 innings, while Dylan Lee and Tyler Kinley combined for 0.2 innings of scoreless relief. The final score of 3-2 reflected the game’s tight nature, with San Francisco’s pitching outdueling Atlanta’s early offensive surge.

The Giants improved their record to 35-48, while the Braves fell to 49-33. The game drew 33,138 fans to Oracle Park in San Francisco.
