Trailing Effort

The San Francisco Giants fell short in their attempt to overcome a two-run deficit, losing 4-2 to the New York Mets at Citi Field on Sunday. Despite receiving quality pitching from Cesar Perdomo, the Giants could not maintain their early lead against a resilient Mets squad that rallied late to secure the victory.

Perdomo was effective for San Francisco, limiting New York to three hits and no earned runs over six innings while striking out four batters. He was supported by Joel Kuhnel, who pitched one scoreless inning with one hit allowed and no walks or strikeouts.

However, the bullpen collapse came in the eighth when Carson Seymour took the loss after allowing four earned runs on three hits in his single inning of work.

Scoring Sequence

The Giants took control in the fourth inning when Lee singled to right field, driving in Eldridge and Cox to make the score 2-0. New York began chipping away at the lead in the eighth inning. Baty homered to left field (360 feet) to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The momentum shifted completely moments later when Bo Bichette launched a three-run home run to left center (412 feet), scoring Ewing and Soto to put the Mets ahead 4-2.

Pitching Performance

Christian Scott started for New York, pitching 4.2 innings with four hits allowed, two earned runs, and seven strikeouts. He was relieved by Nate Lavender, who threw 0.1 hitless innings with one strikeout. Jonathan Pintaro then pitched two perfect innings, allowing no hits or walks while striking out one batter.

Tobias Myers closed out the game in the ninth, earning the win with a scoreless inning that included two strikeouts. Kodai Senga secured the save with a perfect final frame, striking out one batter.

Final Outcome

The Mets improved their record to 65-78, while the Giants dropped to 59-85. The game drew an attendance of 29,410 spectators to Queens, New York.
