A Scoreless Struggle for San Jose
The San Jose Sharks found themselves unable to breach the Buffalo Sabres’ defensive wall, falling 2-0 in a contest at the SAP Center on Tuesday. Despite playing on home ice in front of 14,900 fans, the Sharks could not generate any offense against a disciplined Buffalo squad that controlled much of the action.
Second Period Breakthrough
The game remained deadlocked at 0-0 through the opening frame, with neither team able to find the back of the net. The deadlock was finally broken in the second period when Olen Zellweger capitalized on a snap shot to give Buffalo the lead. Zellweger’s third goal of the season was assisted by Konsta Helenius and Owen Power, pushing the away team ahead 1-0.
Closing Out the Game
San Jose attempted to rally in the final period but could not overcome the deficit. The Sabres extended their lead in the third when Zach Benson scored his first goal of the season on a wrist shot. Tage Thompson and Owen Power provided the secondary assists on the play, making the score 2-0 and effectively sealing the victory for Buffalo.
