The San Francisco 49ers are reviewing their receiver options after rookie De’Zhaun Stribling injured his ankle during a 27-7 Week 1 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Melbourne, Australia. Coach Kyle Shanahan said medical checks did not show an Achilles tear, but the injury’s severity and Stribling’s recovery schedule remain unknown.
Stribling had been playing more offensive snaps than any other 49ers receiver, including Mike Evans, and was expected to hold a significant role. The group also includes Deebo Samuel, while Ricky Pearsall is out for the season after being injured during training camp.
A proposal discussed in a Sept. 11 report carried by sports.yahoo.com would send Carolina a 2027 fourth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick acquired from the Baltimore Ravens for Panthers receiver Xavier Legette. The author suggested Legette could gain from a stronger quarterback and head coach while adding depth in San Francisco.
A 2024 first-round pick, Legette made 35 receptions on 59 opportunities last season, totaling 363 yards, 10.4 yards per catch, 74 yards after catches and three touchdowns.
Quarterback Brock Purdy finished the win with 205 passing yards, completing 25 throws on 34 attempts. He had three touchdown passes, one interception and a 105.6 passer rating. George Kittle said Purdy managed the game and showed increasing confidence, also pointing to a lengthy scramble that prolonged a scoring drive. Kittle caught two of five passes directed to him for 12 yards.
