San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk has been fined $14,926 by the NFL after a celebration in the team’s 35-13 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday. ESPN reported that the league categorized the gesture as an offensive demonstration.
Juszczyk told ESPN he uses the celebration after touchdowns and first downs as a reference to his nickname, “Juice.” He said he was mimicking a beer-drinking motion, but added in a text message, “And I don't even drink beer!” He has appealed the penalty. The NFL said the gesture could be viewed as inappropriate and described it as a display that violated league standards.
The penalty is the second fine Juszczyk has received. During the 49ers’ Week 1 victory over the Los Angeles Rams in Australia, he was assessed $20,033 for using his helmet while blocking in front of running back Christian McCaffrey. Juszczyk joined San Francisco in 2017, has made 10 Pro Bowls and has been named All-Pro three times.
