Nick Bosa may miss a few weeks after injuring his calf during individual warmups before the San Francisco 49ers’ official stretching routine, coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday. Bosa was doing high knees when the injury occurred, shortly before practice began, and it did not happen during a team drill.

Shanahan did not set a firm timetable, but said the injury is not expected to become a lasting problem and that he expects the defensive end to return this season. The 49ers had not determined whether to place Bosa on injured reserve. Shanahan said Bosa and other injured players were being considered for the designation, though the team could not place every player there.

If Bosa avoids injured reserve, he would not face its mandatory four-game minimum, but his status remained unclear.

The injury comes as San Francisco’s defensive line has lost six of the 10 players who made the team during the past two weeks. Shanahan called that unusual in his experience. The team has enough healthy defensive linemen for its starting group, with limited depth.

Friday’s report, published by sports.yahoo.com, listed Mike Evans as a full participant despite a questionable designation against the Arizona Cardinals because of a hip injury. Rookie Romello Height was ruled out following hand surgery, while Bosa, James Thompson Jr. and Demarcus Robinson did not practice. Thompson and Robinson have ankle injuries.
