San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver De'Zhaun Stribling is expected to miss at least four games after being placed on injured reserve. The second-round pick from Ole Miss is also seeking additional medical opinions on whether surgery could be necessary.
Stribling suffered the injury during San Francisco's 27-7 season-opening win over the Los Angeles Rams in Australia. He exited before halftime and was unable to return. Coach Kyle Shanahan initially said Stribling's Achilles tendon was intact, while later reports identified the issue as a deltoid ankle sprain.
Jeremy Fowler reported that the recovery should last at least a month, and Adam Schefter reported the injured-reserve move.
The 49ers elevated KhaDarel Hodge from their practice squad to fill the roster spot. Hodge recorded two tackles in the Australia game.
