Trent Williams was taken off the field by cart during the third quarter of San Francisco’s 36-30 win against Arizona. The 49ers moved to 3-0, but the offensive lineman did not reenter the game. The team called the injury a stinger, while ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Williams’ neck was involved.
The injury occurred with 11:07 remaining and San Francisco leading 14-6. Running back Christian McCaffrey tried to leap into the end zone, and Williams was later seen face down there after landing awkwardly on his shoulder. He took time to get up and was transported without his helmet. Williams later returned to the sideline, with Vederian Lowe filling his spot.
Williams has made 12 Pro Bowls, including selections in each of the last six seasons, and was named an All-Pro from 2021 through 2023. He has been a regular on San Francisco’s offensive line for seven years. The team also was without wide receiver Mike Evans, who was ruled out because of a rib injury.
De’Zhaun Stribling is on injured reserve, while Christian Kirk and Ricky Pearsall were unavailable before the season. Nick Bosa was also lost this week to a leg injury.
