Ladd McConkey did not take part in the Los Angeles Chargers’ opening Week 2 practice Wednesday, Sept. 16, after a rib injury in Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals. Sports.yahoo.com reported that the wide receiver worked separately with trainers. He was injured by a hit over the middle in the third quarter and did not return.
Head coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday that McConkey’s condition would be assessed day to day, without giving a timetable for his return. His status for this week’s game remained unclear. If he is unavailable, the Chargers could use Quentin Johnston, Tre’ Harris and rookie Brenen Thompson more at receiver. Derius Davis is injured, and KeAndre Lambert-Smith went on injured reserve earlier this week.
Safety Elijah Molden, offensive lineman Trey Pipkins and defensive tackle Teair Tart also sat out Wednesday. Their injuries involve the hamstring, knee and ankle, respectively. Defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and cornerback Deane Leonard were limited. Edge rusher Akheem Mesidor and returner Derius Davis completed the full practice.
