Myles Garrett will miss at least four games after the Los Angeles Rams placed the defensive end on injured reserve following knee surgery. The team announced the move Thursday, shortly after Garrett played 62% of the defensive snaps in the season opener against the San Francisco 49ers.
Garrett is expected to sit out games involving the New York Giants, Denver Broncos, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills. A possible return could come in Week 6 against the Arizona Cardinals, but coach Sean McVay said the Rams are not using that matchup to set a recovery target. McVay said Garrett was doing well and had progressed from crutches to walking independently.
Garrett dealt with knee swelling in training camp and missed significant practice time before playing in the opener. He finished that game with five pressures but no sack or tackle, later calling it the poorest version of himself he had shown. Los Angeles acquired him from Cleveland in June after he recorded an NFL-record 23 sacks in 2025 and won Defensive Player of the Year.
Byron Young, who had 12 sacks and 29 quarterback hits last season, is expected to have a larger role. Aaron Donald practiced fully Thursday, and McVay said the team hopes he can debut against the Giants.
