Aaron Donald said he expects to play when the Los Angeles Rams face the New York Giants on Monday, but the team will make a final decision based on his response to upcoming practices. He reported feeling good after two sessions and planned to participate in another.
If available, the game would be Donald’s first NFL appearance since Los Angeles’ playoff loss to the Detroit Lions on Jan. 14, 2023. Donald, 35, earned first-team All-Pro honors eight times and was selected to the Pro Bowl during each of his first 10 seasons.
He averaged more than 12 sacks per season over that span, including 20.5 sacks in 2018, and won Defensive Rookie of the Year.
The Rams are preparing to be without Myles Garrett, who had knee surgery and is expected to miss at least through Week 6. Jared Verse was also involved in the roster move tied to Garrett, according to the report. Donald’s two-season absence makes his immediate form uncertain, though his return could influence opposing offensive plans and open opportunities for other Rams defenders.
His condition should become clearer if he plays against New York.
