Aaron Donald could rejoin the Los Angeles Rams in Week 2 after sitting out the season opener. The defensive end is targeting a return against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, although his participation remains unconfirmed.
Donald announced plans to come out of retirement and play for the Rams in 2026, but he needed more time to resume football activities. That kept him from the opener and from traveling to Australia. Coach Sean McVay said the team still had to evaluate Donald’s progress before deciding if he is physically prepared to play.
The Rams are also dealing with the loss of fellow defensive end Myles Garrett, who was placed on injured reserve as he prepares for knee surgery. Garrett is expected to miss a minimum of four games, while the total recovery period remains dependent on his progress, McVay said. The coach pointed to Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart as potential sources of pass-rush production.
Donald’s return could also open roles for Kobie Turner, Poona Ford and Braden Fiske. Sports.yahoo.com reported the projections and comments, and Donald’s final Week 2 status had not been determined.
