Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Myles Garrett has been placed on injured reserve and will undergo knee surgery, a move expected to keep him out for at least four games. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported the decision on Sept. 13, while The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report it.
The knee problem began after Garrett’s offseason trade from the Cleveland Browns. It affected his work in training camp and continued into the Rams’ season opener, although Garrett and the team had previously called the issue minor and described his earlier absences as maintenance.
After Thursday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Garrett said the knee had caused concern during the contest and conceded that his performance was below his normal standard. He produced five quarterback pressures but did not record a sack or tackle.
Los Angeles is scheduled to face the Giants, Broncos, Eagles and Bills during the stretch Garrett is expected to miss. The Cardinals visit the Rams in Week 6, making that the first game in which he could be eligible to return. NFL.com also reported the injury and anticipated absence.
