Myles Garrett is expected to miss about six weeks while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, according to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport. The Los Angeles Rams placed the edge rusher on injured reserve after their Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He must sit out at least four games, and the team is expected to handle his recovery cautiously.
The longer estimate would keep Garrett out for games against the Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders and Los Angeles Chargers. A return could come before the Rams face the Washington Commanders in Week 8. Coach Sean McVay previously said he was reluctant to provide a timetable and that Garrett would not be hurried before he was prepared to perform at his normal level.
Josaiah Stewart, Byron Young, Wesley Bailey and Desjuan Johnson have filled in, with Bailey producing his first career sack against the Giants in Week 2. The Rams hope the procedure eases Garrett's discomfort and swelling.
Puka Nacua is slated to miss a second consecutive game because of a groin problem, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. The injury has reduced his explosiveness, but he remains capable of playing. The Rams consider it a short-term issue and do not currently expect surgery, although that could be reconsidered if he fails to improve.
McVay said Nacua is expected to return next week unless he experiences a setback. Sports Illustrated reported the updates and said the Rams have been cautious with both players.
