Davante Adams gave Los Angeles a significant contribution while Puka Nacua was unavailable, totaling 195 receiving yards and two touchdowns on eight catches in the Rams’ 28-6 win over the New York Giants. His catches covered an average of 24.2 yards each.
Coach Sean McVay said Wednesday that Nacua’s lower-body problem has shifted from an earlier groin concern to a hip issue. McVay said the medical staff believes recovery time is the best course and does not expect the injury to keep Nacua out for an extended period. A return date was not provided.
Nacua suffered a psoas injury in training camp and was out for several weeks before playing in the Rams’ Week 1 game, when he had five receptions for 74 yards. McVay said the current symptoms feel similar to a possible pre-hernia condition and that Nacua cannot simply push through it.
The possibility of a hernia has led to a cautious approach, though a source said Nacua is not having hernia surgery. The Rams have turned to Adams during Nacua’s absence, and the two receivers have been described as a strong pairing. Los Angeles also remains capable of producing with Adams playing without Nacua.
