The Los Angeles Rams added safety Maximus Pulley to their 53-player roster after placing running back and special teams player Ronnie Rivers on injured reserve. Coach Sean McVay said Rivers hurt his calf while jumping to loosen up, and the injury is expected to sideline him for four to six weeks.
Pulley joined Los Angeles from the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad. The 24-year-old undrafted rookie spent his final three college seasons at Wofford, where he was a first-team FCS All-American and a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which goes to the FCS’ top defensive player. McVay said the Rams had fewer available players in the secondary and had previously liked Pulley’s college film.
Philadelphia elevated Pulley from its practice squad for his NFL debut last week. He played six special teams snaps but did not take part in a defensive play. As Los Angeles prepared for its Sunday night matchup with the Denver Broncos, starting safety Kam Kinchens was absent from Thursday’s practice.
The Rams also planned to elevate either Dean Connors or Jordan Waters for the third running-back role.
