San Jose State University has officially named Luke Weaver as the starting quarterback for their upcoming season opener against USC. The game is scheduled for August 29 at the Coliseum in Los Angeles, with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. Pacific time.
Weaver, who previously played for Hawaii, brings valuable experience from the junior college level. Last season, he participated in five games with the Rainbow Warriors, completing 60% of his passes for a total of 628 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions.
This game will also be significant as it will be the first time USC's defense, now under the direction of defensive coordinator Gary Patterson, will contend with an opposing quarterback. Patterson, who was the head coach at TCU before joining USC's coaching staff in January, will be looking to make an impact in this matchup.
