Brandin Cooks is expected to join the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad, according to a report by sports.yahoo.com. The veteran wide receiver chose San Francisco after taking part in a workout with the Baltimore Ravens.
The 49ers are managing several injuries at the position. Demarcus Robinson suffered an ankle sprain in Week 2, and Mike Evans is dealing with a hip injury from San Francisco’s win over the Dolphins. Ricky Pearsall is out for the season, while De’Zhaun Stribling is expected to miss a couple of months following ankle surgery.
Cooks played for the New Orleans Saints and Buffalo Bills last season. During the playoffs, he was the intended target on an interception that helped the Denver Broncos eliminate Buffalo.
The Saints selected Cooks in the first round of the 2014 draft. He later played for the New England Patriots, Los Angeles Rams, Houston Texans and Dallas Cowboys. Cooks has 734 career receptions, 9,811 receiving yards and 60 touchdowns. No contract details were provided.
