Stanford women’s volleyball has added a new spring destination: an eight-team tournament in Louisville that will give each participating program three matches over two days.
The Cardinal announced Thursday that it will take part in the inaugural AVCA Match Point on April 10–11, 2027, at Freedom Hall. Kentucky, Louisville, Nebraska, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin are the other programs named so far. Two remaining teams will be announced later.
The event will use a bracket, with every school scheduled to play twice on April 10 and once on April 11. Organizers have not released individual matchups or start times. Ticket and broadcast information also remain unannounced, so the announcement establishes Stanford’s participation and the event’s format without yet providing a complete viewing or travel schedule.
Stanford brings nine NCAA championships, the most in women’s volleyball, to the announced field. The university described the new competition as an additional national opportunity for leading programs during the spring portion of the college sports calendar.
AVCA Match Point is the first event in a formal partnership between the American Volleyball Coaches Association and Intersport. The organizations say their collaboration will also support the AVCA First Serve and State Farm Volleyball Showcase, existing events that put major college programs together early in the season.
Louisville’s volleyball calendar is part of the plan. The new college event will run alongside the JVA World Challenge and JVA 18U National Championships. The AVCA says those tournaments will bring hundreds of youth programs, coaches and families to the city over April 9–11.
