Stanford volleyball finished its first ACC home weekend with consecutive sweeps, beating Virginia 25–12, 25–23, 25–13 on Saturday, Oct. 3, at Maples Pavilion. The No. 13 Cardinal improved to 9–5 overall and 2–2 in the conference.
The attacking gap was substantial. Stanford hit .382 for the match while Virginia finished at .167, according to Stanford Athletics. The Cardinal’s offense became particularly efficient in the final set, posting a .581 hitting percentage to close the match.
Virginia provided its closest challenge in the second set, which Stanford won by two points. The Cavaliers fell to 5–8 overall and 1–3 in ACC competition. Stanford has now won all four meetings between the programs.
The result followed Friday’s sweep of Virginia Tech, when Stanford earned its first conference victory of the season. That match leaned heavily on defense: the Hokies hit .064, while the Cardinal finished at .276. Together, the two nights supplied different examples of how Stanford can control a match.
The change of setting also mattered in the standings. Stanford arrived home after straight-set losses at SMU and Pittsburgh on the opening weekend of its ACC schedule. Winning both matches at Maples restored an even conference record before the next pair of away matches.
