The U.S. Postal Service has announced a proposed increase in mailing rates that could take effect on July 12, pending regulatory approval. This change includes raising the cost of a First-Class Forever stamp from 78 cents to 82 cents. Additionally, the price for a metered one-ounce letter would go up from 74 cents to 78 cents, while domestic postcards would see an increase from 61 cents to 65 cents. For international mail, postcards and one-ounce letters would each rise from $1.70 to $1.75. The fee for each additional ounce on a single-piece letter will remain at 29 cents.

According to the Postal Service, these increases are necessary to address significant financial challenges and rising operational costs. The agency operates without tax funding and relies on postage sales and services to cover its expenses. Before the proposed rates can be implemented, they must be reviewed by the Postal Regulatory Commission, which oversees Postal Service pricing.

If approved, these adjustments will impact Saratoga residents and businesses, as well as mailers across the country, continuing a trend of postage increases aimed at stabilizing the Postal Service's finances through a long-term restructuring plan.

Saratoga residents and businesses would pay the higher rates in July, as would mailers nationwide.
