Stanford’s men’s water polo team completed a two-win trip to Los Angeles on Sunday, Oct. 4, beating USC 16–12 a day after defeating UCLA.
The Cardinal improved to 12–1 overall and 2–0 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. Stanford entered the weekend ranked No. 2, facing No. 1 UCLA and No. 3 USC.
Sunday’s win began with a defensive shutout in the first period. Stanford built a 6–0 lead before USC scored early in the second, but the Trojans responded strongly enough to cut the deficit to 9–7 by halftime.
The Cardinal pushed its advantage to 14–11 after three periods and added two goals in the fourth before USC supplied the final score. Eight Stanford players contributed goals, including six who scored more than once.
