Saratoga, California — Governor Gavin Newsom on July 23 announced $109.6 million in Proposition 1-funded Homekey+ awards to create 278 permanent supportive homes, including 103 units reserved for veterans, in four communities: Sacramento and Fresno, along with Bakersfield and Contra Costa County. State officials said the money will pair housing with behavioral health services for residents who are homeless or in danger of losing their homes.
The awards fund four projects: a 100-home senior development in Sacramento, an 82-unit senior community in Contra Costa County, rebuilding interim units as 84 permanent homes in Fresno, and turning a motel into 30 homes in Bakersfield. Three previously awarded veteran-serving projects in Olivehurst, Sanger and Stockton will also receive a combined $2.3 million, largely for operating costs.

State officials said Homekey+ has now allocated $968.4 million to 54 supportive housing projects statewide, creating about 2,749 affordable homes, of which 723 are set aside for veterans. The program draws on the $6.4 billion behavioral health bond that voters approved as Proposition 1.
