Saratoga marks 70 years as a city with a free community celebration at Wildwood Park on Saturday, Aug. 22, from noon to 5 p.m.
The event is open to the public and is the city's main civic gathering of the summer.
Wildfire town hall Aug. 12
Ahead of it, the city has scheduled a wildfire safety town hall for Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Saratoga Prospect Center in Friendship Hall.
Mayor Chuck Page is scheduled to take part, along with Santa Clara County Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga and Rep. Sam Liccardo. Having city, county and federal representatives in one room is unusual for a local meeting and reflects how wildfire responsibility is split across those levels, from defensible space rules to evacuation planning and federal funding.
Saratoga sits against the Santa Cruz Mountains, which places much of the city in or near elevated fire risk areas.
