Pitching Performance
Tarik Skubal was the anchor for Detroit, delivering a masterful seven-inning start that kept the Angels off the board entirely. He allowed five hits and walked one batter while striking out nine. His performance earned him the win, improving his record to 6-5.
The Tigers’ bullpen maintained the shutout with three relievers combining for two innings of scoreless relief. Jacob Waguespack pitched 0.2 innings, allowing one hit and issuing two walks with one strikeout. Kyle Finnegan contributed 0.1 innings of work with no hits or walks allowed.
Brenan Hanifee closed out the game with a perfect 1.0 inning, recording one hit allowed and no walks.
For Los Angeles, Grayson Rodriguez took the loss after a difficult outing. He pitched four innings, surrendering six earned runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking one. His record dropped to 3-3.
Brent Suter followed with 3.0 innings, giving up one earned run on two hits with two strikeouts. Jose Fermin pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two batters without surrendering any additional runs.
Offensive Output
Detroit’s offense exploded early, capitalizing on Rodriguez’s struggles. In the first inning, the Tigers loaded the bases and scored on a single by Keith to center field, which drove in McGonigle. Keith advanced to third, setting the stage for Torkelson.
Torkelson then launched a 415-foot home run to left-center field, scoring Dingler and Keith to extend the lead to 4-0. The Tigers added another run in the second inning when Keith hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Outman. Greene followed with another sacrifice fly to center, scoring Dingler and making it 6-0.
Torkelson added insurance in the fifth inning with a 420-foot home run to center field, pushing the final score to 7-0.
The Angels were unable to generate any offensive production, finishing with zero hits and zero runs. Their lineup failed to counter Detroit’s early surge, and they were shut out for the second time in this matchup. The game was played at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, before a crowd of 32,003 spectators.
With the loss, the Angels fell to 38-61 on the season. The Tigers improved to 46-52 with the victory.
