Late Surge Secures Victory
The Los Angeles Dodgers overcame a sluggish start to defeat the Philadelphia Phillies 9-5 at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday. While Philadelphia held an early lead, a decisive eight-run rally in the eighth inning proved too much for the home team to overcome, improving Los Angeles' record to 65-38 while dropping Philadelphia to 56-47.
Early Phillies Advantage
Philadelphia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Bohm homered 411 feet to left field, driving in Schwarber. The Dodgers responded in the third inning as Rushing launched a 438-foot home run to center, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
However, the Phillies regained control in the fifth inning when Rushing doubled to right, allowing Edman and T. Hernández to score, making it 3-2. De La Cruz answered for Los Angeles with a 404-foot homer to center, tying the game at 3-3.
Dodgers Take Control
Los Angeles seized the lead in the sixth inning. Muncy hit a 415-foot home run to center field, bringing Freeman home to make it 5-3. The Dodgers' offense exploded in the eighth inning, scoring six runs in the frame.
Tucker hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Pages, extending the lead to 6-3. Edman then tripled to center, driving in Freeman, Betts, and T. Hernández to push the margin to 9-3. Bohm added a run for Philadelphia with a single to right that scored Turner, making the score 9-4.
Realmuto capped the Phillies' scoring with a single to left that brought Marsh home for a final tally of 9-5.
Pitching Performances
Eric Lauer earned the win for Los Angeles, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Brock Stewart and Jack Dreyer recorded saves, pitching 0.2 and 1.0 innings respectively without allowing runs. Will Klein and Edgardo Henriquez also pitched for the Dodgers, with Klein allowing one earned run and Henriquez surrendering one run in his appearance.
Aaron Nola took the loss for Philadelphia, pitching 5.1 innings and giving up five earned runs on seven hits. Seth Johnson, Tim Mayza, Orion Kerkering, and Alex McFarlane pitched for the Phillies. Mayza and Kerkering each allowed two earned runs, while Johnson and McFarlane remained scoreless. The game drew an attendance of 40,675 at Citizens Bank Park.
