The Comeback Falls Short
San Diego erased a six-run deficit to take an 8-6 lead, but Los Angeles responded with four unanswered runs to secure a 12-7 victory on Friday at Dodger Stadium. Despite the late surge, the Padres could not prevent the loss, falling to the Dodgers in a game defined by dramatic momentum shifts.
Early Dominance by San Diego
The Padres jumped out to a commanding lead in the second inning. After Manny Machado hit a two-run home run to center in the first, San Diego exploded for six runs in the second. Ha-seong Kim homered to left center, and Fernando Tatis Jr. drove in two more runs with a three-run shot to right center, making the score 6-0.
Merrill added a solo home run to left center later in the frame, extending the lead before Los Angeles began its rally. The Dodgers chipped away in the third inning with runs from Mookie Betts and Max Muncy, followed by a single from Muncy that brought another run home. By the end of the fourth inning, the Dodgers had erased the deficit, tying the game at 6-6 and then taking the lead 8-6 on consecutive hits by Cody Bellinger and Muncy.
Los Angeles Pulls Away
The Dodgers extended their lead in the fifth inning. Edman doubled to right, scoring Rushing, and then scored on a wild pitch by Yuki Matsui. Although the scoring summary lists the wild pitch twice, the run total reflects a single scoring event for that sequence. The Dodgers added another run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Rushing that scored Tucker.
Rushing continued his offensive production in the eighth with a single that scored Tucker, pushing the lead to 12-6. In the ninth inning, Andujar singled to center, bringing Taylor home to make the final score 12-7.
