Trailing Early, Dodgers Struggle to Respond
The Los Angeles Dodgers entered Thursday’s contest at Sutter Health Park facing an Athletics team looking to break a recent slump. Despite a solid outing from starting pitcher Charlie Barnes, the Dodgers were unable to keep pace with Sacramento’s offensive surge, ultimately falling 7-1.
Barnes took the mound for Los Angeles and worked seven innings, facing a heavy workload that resulted in 12 hits and seven earned runs. He also walked two batters while striking out two. The loss dropped his record to 0-1 for the season.
Athletics Offense Explodes Behind Home Runs
Sacramento’s power display was anchored by three home runs from their lineup. The Athletics took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning when Heim launched a 444-foot home run to center field.
Los Angeles responded in the third inning when Freeman hit a 431-foot home run to right center, tying the game at 1-1. However, the Athletics regained the lead in the fourth inning. After Butler grounded out to shortstop, allowing Heim to score, Bolte singled to center field to bring Kuroda-Grauer home, making it 3-1.
The fifth inning proved decisive for Sacramento. Langeliers homered to left center, extending the lead to 4-1. Thomas followed with a double to center field, scoring Kurtz to make it 5-1. Heim then singled to left, driving in Thomas to push the score to 6-1.
