3 Killed When Car Drops Off Highway 9 Near Saratoga

A 21-year-old driver lost control of a BMW on Highway 9, sending it down an embankment and killing three people near Saratoga.

Three individuals lost their lives Monday night when a vehicle departed the roadway on State Route 9 in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The incident occurred near Redwood Gulch Road, approximately five miles west of Saratoga, shortly after 9:30 p.m.

According to the California Highway Patrol’s San Jose office, the driver, identified as a 21-year-old man from Yuba City, was operating a 2024 BMW M3 eastbound when he lost control. The car left the road and fell roughly 300 feet down an embankment. Authorities confirmed the fatalities but did not provide additional details regarding the occupants or the cause of the loss of control.
