Three people died Monday evening after their vehicle left Highway 9 near Saratoga, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash occurred around 9:36 p.m. when the driver lost control west of Redwood Gulch Road, sending the car down a steep 300-foot drop.
The driver was identified as a 21-year-old man from Yuba City operating a 2024 BMW M3. His passengers included a 27-year-old man from Salem, Oregon, and a 17-year-old boy from San Jose. A coroner arrived at the scene at 10:16 a.m. to confirm the fatalities.
Highway 9 remained closed in both directions for three hours while investigators worked and recovery crews removed the vehicle. Authorities have not yet released the full identities of the victims. CHP San Jose Area officials are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to call 408-961-0900.
