Three people died after their vehicle left the roadway on Highway 9 near Saratoga, the California Highway Patrol reported. The crash occurred around 9:36 p.m. Monday when the driver lost control west of Redwood Gulch Road. The car traveled down a steep 300-foot slope.
The driver was identified as a 21-year-old man from Yuba City. He was traveling eastbound in a 2024 BMW M3 with two passengers: a 27-year-old man from Salem, Oregon, and a 17-year-old boy from San Jose. A coroner arrived at the scene at 10:16 a.m., though the identities of the deceased have not been released.
Highway 9 remained closed in both directions for approximately three hours while investigators worked and the vehicle was recovered. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the CHP San Jose Area office.
