A small dog that had been lost for 16 days was rescued from the San Francisco Bay near East Palo Alto. The dog went missing during the Fourth of July weekend, with a 911 call reporting its sighting on July 16 as it entered the bay near the Dumbarton Bridge.
Firefighters from the Menlo Park Fire Protection District responded with multiple trucks, a boat, and an airboat. They first spotted the dog from the shore using binoculars and later employed a drone for assistance. Video footage shared on social media showed the dog being dried off by firefighters after being rescued from the water.
Additional footage from the East Palo Alto Police Department showed the dog swimming, pursued by seagulls, about half a mile from the shore. Following the rescue, the dog was taken to the local Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), which facilitated its reunion with its family.
The Menlo Park Fire Protection District confirmed the reunion on their Instagram account, stating, "Dog and family have been reunited."
