Three individuals died after a vehicle departed Highway 9 near Saratoga and descended a steep embankment Monday evening. California Highway Patrol officers arrived at the scene west of Redwood Gulch Road around 9:36 p.m. to find the occupants had sustained fatal injuries.
The driver, identified as a 21-year-old man from Yuba City, reportedly lost control of the BMW. The other victims were a 27-year-old man from Salem, Oregon, and a 17-year-old boy from San Jose. Authorities have not yet released full identities for the deceased.
Highway 9 remained closed in both directions for approximately three hours while investigators examined the site. CHP is seeking witness information and has provided the number (408) 961-0900 for tips.
