Three people died Monday night after a vehicle left the roadway on Highway 9 near Redwood Gulch Road and plunged down an embankment, according to the California Highway Patrol. The crash occurred east of the intersection in Saratoga.
The CHP arrived at the scene shortly after 9:36 p.m. to find a wrecked 2024 BMW M3 sedan. The three fatalities were identified as the driver, a 21-year-old man from Yuba City; a 27-year-old man from Salem, Oregon; and a 17-year-old boy from San Jose. Their names have not been released pending formal identification by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Investigators stated the BMW was traveling eastbound when the driver lost control. While the vehicle left the road and descended a steep slope, the precise cause of the loss of control remains under investigation. Highway 9 was closed for approximately three hours to allow for scene examination. The CHP San Jose area field office is asking anyone with information to call 408-961-0900.
