Gallen’s Struggles Define Night
Zac Gallen’s outing ended in disappointment as he took the loss, dropping his record to 3-9. The Arizona Diamondbacks starter managed to navigate through six innings but could not contain the San Diego Padres offense, surrendering four earned runs on six hits while walking three batters and striking out five.
Gallen faced early trouble in the first inning. After Christian Walker and Ketel Marte reached base, the Diamondbacks took a 1-0 lead when Corbin Carroll scored on a walk by Jurickson Profar. However, the momentum shifted quickly. Merrill singled to right field, allowing Fernando Tatis Jr. to cross the plate and tie the game at 1-1.
The pivotal moment arrived moments later when Jake Cronenworth launched a 384-foot home run to right field. The blast cleared the bases, driving in Merrill and Luis Garcia to give San Diego a 4-1 lead. Gallen exited after the sixth inning, having given up four earned runs. Kevin Ginkel and Jonathan Loaisiga pitched the final two innings for Arizona, retiring all batters they faced without allowing any additional runs.
Padres Pitching Holds Firm
San Diego’s starting pitcher, German Marquez, earned the win, improving his record to 4-2. He pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out four batters despite issuing three walks. His performance kept the Diamondbacks off the scoreboard until the first-inning rally.
