Offensive Explosion
The San Francisco Giants’ bats were too much for the New York Mets to handle on Saturday, as a barrage of home runs propelled San Francisco to a 9-5 victory at Citi Field. Rafael Devers and Christian Koss provided the primary firepower for the visiting club, each launching two home runs in the contest.
Devers opened the scoring in the first inning with a solo shot to right field that traveled 351 feet. The Giants’ offense continued its assault in the second inning when Koss homered to right-center (407 feet) to give San Francisco a 2-1 lead, and Devers added an RBI single later in the frame. However, it was Koss who became the standout performer of the day.
He extended his night with a two-run homer to left-center in the third inning, followed by another solo shot to left field in the fifth. Devers completed his two-homer performance in the same fifth-inning segment with an RBI blast to left.
Mets Response
The Mets managed to answer back against Giants pitching in the seventh inning when Andrew Young scored on a walk by Mark Canha, making it 6-3. New York’s offense found some life in the eighth inning when Luis Torrens homered to left-center (375 feet), driving in two runs to narrow the gap to 8-3.
The Giants’ bats remained active in the ninth inning. Matt Chapman added a solo home run to center field, pushing the score to 9-3. The Mets attempted a late rally with two runs in the bottom of the frame on a double by Mark Vientos, which scored two runners after an upheld umpire review, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
