Diamondbacks Strike Early
The Arizona Diamondbacks seized control of their Saturday matchup against the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park with a series of explosive offensive plays. The visiting team jumped ahead in the first inning when Nootbaar launched a 432-foot home run to center field, giving Arizona an early 1-0 lead.
The Giants responded immediately in the same frame as Eldridge hit a 381-foot homer to right, tying the game at 1.
Arizona regained the lead in the second inning when Hill’s sacrifice fly to right allowed Lee to score, making it 2-1 for the Diamondbacks. However, the game changed dramatically in the third inning. Carroll homered to center field, driving in Nootbaar to extend the Arizona advantage to 3-2.
The inning continued with a massive rally as Tawa hit a 379-foot home run to left-center field, bringing home Perdomo and Arenado for a three-run blast that pushed the score to 6-2.
The Diamondbacks added another run in the bottom of the third when Eldridge doubled to center, allowing Devers to score, making it 6-3. Arizona’s offense continued to pressure the Giants' pitching staff throughout the early going.
Giants Rally and Pitching Changes
San Francisco began to chip away at the deficit in the fourth inning. Koss hit a 365-foot home run to left field, scoring Hill and cutting the gap to 6-5. The Giants showed resilience as they continued to battle back.
In the sixth inning, Vargas singled to right field, driving in Tawa and McCann to tie the game at 5-5. Carroll followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Vargas and giving San Francisco its first lead of the day at 6-5. The momentum seemed to shift in favor of the home team.
However, Arizona regained the lead in the seventh inning when McCann singled to left, allowing Perdomo to score, making it 7-6. The Diamondbacks added another run in the eighth inning when Hill grounded into a fielder's choice to first; Lee scored on the play while Whitcomb was out at second, extending the lead to 8-6.
