The San Francisco 49ers will be missing defensive end Sam Okuayinonu for their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams. Initially, he was listed as questionable because of a foot injury, but he did not make the trip to Melbourne, Australia, leading to the confirmation of his absence from the game.

Okuayinonu was anticipated to start alongside Nick Bosa, making his absence a notable issue for a position with limited options. Keion White is now expected to step into the starting role, while rookie Romello Height may also get considerable playing time if he recovers from his ankle injury.

With Okuayinonu out, the 49ers might promote Ogbo Okoronkwo from the practice squad to the active roster. The team is already dealing with challenges at the defensive end position, as Bosa has been managing knee tendinitis following his ACL surgery. The situation is becoming increasingly critical as the 49ers gear up for the regular season.
