The San Francisco 49ers are reportedly bringing back wide receiver Dante Pettis after injuries left the team short-handed. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported the move, and Yahoo Sports also covered it. Further details about the signing were not provided.
San Francisco is without Ricky Pearsall, De’Zhaun Stribling, Christian Kirk and Demarcus Robinson. Mike Evans could also be unavailable. Pettis may be able to contribute quickly because he previously played in the 49ers’ system.
Pettis, 30, was San Francisco’s second-round pick in 2018 after four seasons at Washington. He set an FBS record with nine punt-return touchdowns and earned All-Pac-12 and All-American recognition. In his first three NFL seasons with the 49ers, he made 38 receptions for 576 yards and seven touchdowns in 28 games.
He later played for the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and Chicago Bears. Across 38 games with those teams, Pettis totaled 54 catches, 655 yards and six touchdowns.
