Kingston Lopa will take a national-leading four interceptions into California’s game against Wagner at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at California Memorial Stadium. The first football meeting between the Golden Bears and Seahawks will air on ACC Network.
Lopa had three interceptions in Cal’s 21-18 win over Syracuse, including a 24-yard return for the go-ahead touchdown, and added five tackles. He received ACC Defensive Back of the Week, Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week and Chuck Bednarik Player of the Week honors, as well as a spot on the PFF National Defensive Team of the Week.
Cal has four interceptions, four turnovers gained and four sacks, ranking first in the ACC and tied for fifth nationally in interceptions. The Bears also rank fourth in the conference in red-zone defense and team passing-efficiency defense.
Cal is 1-1 overall and 1-0 in ACC play, while Wagner is 1-2 and 0-1 in the Northeast Conference. Wagner beat Southern Connecticut State 31-7 two weeks ago, but lost to Robert Morris in Week 0 and James Madison in its most recent game. The Seahawks finished third in the NEC last season at 5-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
Cal has won 16 straight games against Football Championship Subdivision opponents dating to 2005.
