The San Francisco 49ers are gearing up for the NFL's roster cut deadline on August 30 at 3:00 PM Pacific Time, when teams must cut their rosters from 90 players down to 53.

Following a recent preseason victory against the Las Vegas Raiders, the team is evaluating its roster, facing tough decisions particularly in areas with tight competition and injuries, along with new injured reserve (IR) rules.

The updated IR regulations allow teams to designate two players for return without counting against the 53-man roster, complicating the decision-making for the 49ers as they determine which players to keep. After the roster reductions, players will either go through waivers or become free agents.

Those who clear waivers have the option to re-sign with the practice squad, while others may pursue opportunities with other teams or potentially return to the 49ers' practice squad.

No practices will be held until after the roster cuts are completed, making the recent game the final chance for player evaluations before the regular season opener against the Los Angeles Rams on September 10 in Melbourne, Australia.
